ARBOIS GRAND CUROULET SAVAGNIN OUILLÉ "Grand Curoulet" is the name of a 5-hectare parcel acquired when the domaine was established in 2012. Known as one of the finest sites in Arbois, it is also historically the very first place where vines were planted in the region. At the time of purchase—aside from a 0.3-hectare plot of Savagnin planted in 1993—the vines were over 60 years old and no longer yielding quality fruit. Consequently, most of the old vines were uprooted, the land was regraded, and new Savagnin and Chardonnay vines were planted in 2015. Half of the parcel consists of Triassic gray marl, which forms the oldest and highest-quality marl soils, while the other half features mottled green and red marl, creating an ideal soil composition for Savagnin. As a north-facing and well-ventilated vineyard, the grapes ripen at a leisurely pace compared to other plots. Much like the blended Savagnin mentioned earlier, one-third of the harvest undergoes overnight skin contact to preserve aromatics before being fermented in 350-liter and 500-liter oak barrels, as well as large casks ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 liters. Aging is carried out in neutral 500-liter barrels. Characterized by magnificent soil-driven minerality, this muscular, deep, and energetic wine possesses even greater nobility than the blended Savagnin, serving as a striking reminder that Arbois indeed possesses true terroir.
