Domaine du Pélican — the wines we carry

Founded in 2012 in the village of Montigny-les-Arsures adjacent to the town of Arbois in the Jura region, this domaine was created by Guillaume d’Angerville—head of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville in Volnay—and cellarmaster François Duvivier, driven by their deep-seated quest to craft wines of Burgundy-like, sublime terroir. The estate takes its name from the pelican, the emblem of the town of Arbois. At the end of the 15th century, the Duke of Burgundy, who owned the Volnay premier cru Clos des Ducs, had an only daughter. She married Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, who designated the pelican as the emblem of Arbois. Honoring this historical link between Volnay and Arbois, Guillaume, the current owner of Clos des Ducs, named the domaine "Pélican." The estate spans approximately 15 hectares. Among them, 5.8 hectares were acquired from Château de Chavanes, a property that had practiced biodynamic farming since 2003, and are planted with classic Arbois varieties including Savagnin, Chardonnay, Trousseau, Poulsard, and Pinot Noir. Another 5 hectares lie in "Grand Curoulet," one of the earliest reclaimed parcels in Arbois, known for producing exceptional Savagnin. Previously owned by Jean Marc Brignot, it was farmed biodynamically from 2004 to 2012. The remaining 4.2 hectares were acquired at the end of 2014 from the late Jacques Puffeney—a legendary producer in the village of Montigny-les-Arsures revered as the "Pope of Jura"—whose plots similarly boast superb terroirs perfectly suited to Arbois varieties. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, but due to varying ripening speeds among the grape varieties, it extends over a period of approximately three weeks. Beginning with the 2018 vintage, single-parcel vinification was also introduced to showcase to the world that Arbois possesses distinct individual terroirs, much like Burgundy. 株式会社フィネス資料
