It is hard to believe how much time has passed since I first tasted the sensational 2019 debut vintage from Domaine de Vernus. It was so incredibly delicious that any comparisons to "Emmanuel Rouget's..." felt utterly redundant. I still remember that breathtaking moment as if it were yesterday—the way a smile instantly spread across my face the second the glass touched my lips. It is, quite simply, spectacularly delicious. To be frank, it feels as though profit margins were completely ignored in its creation. While I have not confirmed the exact yields and should perhaps refrain from speculation, a Gamay achieving this level of rich, expressive fruit is simply unheard of. It defies conventional expectations. In contrast, the subsequent 2020 vintage revealed a shift toward elegance. With a beautifully delicate acidity, it has taken on the stature and poise of a truly great wine. The most fascinating of all was the "Morgon Grand Cras." It is an artistic masterpiece that completely shatters any lingering prejudices about Beaujolais, evoking the legendary style of his father's wines. The "Morgon" (though the bottle I tasted showed a touch of reduction initially, which soon dissipated) shared a very similar character. While many might describe these wines as "very Burgundian" or "not like typical Gamay," what this truly signifies is that they represent the singular, incomparable style that the Rouget family strives to achieve. After allowing these bottles to rest in our cellar since their arrival, they have now reached a beautiful stage. We are delighted to finally present them to our fellow wine lovers.
