This estate was established at the turn of the century by Étienne Camuzet, a member of the National Assembly for the Côte-d'Or. The vineyards were subsequently inherited by his daughter; however, as she had no children, the estate passed to her closest relative, Jean Méo (father of current owner Jean-Nicolas Méo). Initially, the work was entrusted to tenant farmers who paid half the yield as rent, with the wine sold in barrel. Estate-bottled sales began in 1985. Later, while studying economics in Paris, Jean-Nicolas Méo visited his hometown of Vosne-Romanée, where he was so captivated by the estate's magnificent vineyards that he decided to take up winemaking. Following guidance from Henri Jayer, he assumed control of the estate and became its head in 1989. Christian Froehly, a tenant farmer who had worked at the estate for years, remained on board to offer advice rooted in his extensive experience, and today a dedicated team of young staff supports the estate's operations. Practicing sustainable agriculture without the use of herbicides, the team focuses on pruning and leaf-thinning to optimize air circulation and drying within the canopy, thereby preventing rot and producing healthy, premium grapes. This ethos remains identical for both estate-owned and negociant wines. All harvesting is done manually, with sorting conducted both in the vineyard and at the winery. At least ten sorting personnel meticulously inspect the grapes on a conveyor-belt sorting table, removing not only any rotten fruit but also all underripe berries. Depending on the vintage, the grapes are almost 100% destemmed, placed into concrete fermentation vats for cold maceration, and subsequently fermented using indigenous yeasts. Grand Crus and Premier Crus are aged for 18 months in essentially 100% new oak, while other wines see approximately 50% new oak, followed by bottling without filtration. The estate also incorporates cutting-edge technology, such as machinery capable of simultaneous *pigeage* and *remontage*, striving constantly to craft wines of even higher quality.
