While a frost occurred in early April 2021, Gevrey-Chambertin suffered relatively minor damage. Unsettled weather persisted thereafter, complicating vineyard management. In response to recent global warming and rising temperatures—which tend to elevate grape sugar levels and risk overly alcoholic wines—harvesting is now initiated earlier than in previous generations to preserve the balance between acidity and sugar. Fortunately, the cool and rainy conditions of 2021 averted this concern, and harvesting took place on September 15th. Thanks to improving weather in August, the grapes reached an excellent state of maturity, delivering fresh aromas of red berries, pure fruit flavors, and a crisp acidity. Delicate yet full of energy, this is quintessential Pinot Noir—a breathtakingly magnificent wine that far exceeded expectations given the challenging weather conditions. (Source: Finesse Co., Ltd.)
