Fontaine-Gagnard — the wines we carry

13 bottles

Established in 1985, this domain is led by Richard Fontaine, whose family lineage includes the illustrious Chassagne-Montrachet wine families of Gagnard-Delagrange and Blain-Gagnard. The estate spans approximately 12 hectares across the villages of Chassagne, Pommard, and Volnay, producing rich, powerful, and unctuous whites alongside deeply colored, structured reds. While the underlying vineyard soils are predominantly clay-limestone, each parcel possesses distinct characteristics that impart unique individuality to the wines. The vines are trained in the Guyot system and strictly pruned to limit yields to six to eight clusters per vine. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand with 100% destemming, followed by cold maceration prior to fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in 228-liter oak barrels for the whites and in concrete tanks for the reds. Temperature regulation utilizes cooling panels, maintaining fermentation at 15–26°C for whites and 15–32°C for reds. Pigeage and remontage are performed two to three times daily, with only remontage practiced during the final stages of alcoholic fermentation. Aging lasts approximately 12 months for whites and 18 months for reds, both conducted in 228-liter oak barrels. The domain purchases staves of oak sourced directly from the Cher region in central France, air-dries them in the estate's yard for two years, and then commissions coopers to craft the barrels. New oak usage accounts for 20% for Bourgogne and Village wines, and 30% for Premiers and Grands Crus.
