CHAPELLE 1441 (AC ALSACE) This red wine is crafted from Pinot Noir planted in 1970 within the Grand Cru 'Froehn' vineyard. In the Burgundian tradition, the grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a two-stage sorting process. After being 80% destemmed, they undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 17 days. The wine is aged half in Burgundian oak barrels and half in egg-shaped concrete vats, before being blended prior to bottling. It displays a pale hue and offers light fruitiness alongside a savory, mineral depth. While it may lack the profound weight of a Gevrey-Chambertin, it is a delightfully approachable and easy-drinking wine. Although the vineyard itself is classified as Grand Cru, Alsace regulations do not permit Pinot Noir to carry the Grand Cru designation. (From the archives of Finesse Co., Ltd.)
