VOLNAY 100% Pinot Noir. The domaine farms a total of approximately 0.47 hectares across two parcels classified as Volnay Village: "Grand Champs" and "Les Pluchots." Both sites sit immediately adjacent to Premier Cru vineyards, and the vines average around 40 years of age. The wine beautifully showcases the luminous color characteristic of Pinot Noir, where sweet fruit, refined tannins, and pristine acidity exist in harmonious balance. The 2022 growing season was dry and hot from the outset of spring, with hardly any rain through the summer months, resulting in a textbook heatwave year. Naturally, the grapes matured rapidly, leading to a harvest starting on August 23rd—the second earliest on record following 2020. However, much like the warm and dry years of 2019 and 2020, the vintage avoided any negative cooked or overripe characteristics, achieving breathtaking results. With yields remaining close to average and an unassailable quality across both reds and whites, this stands as a rare and exceptional vintage unlike anything experienced in recent memory.
