The Épineuil region is perhaps unfamiliar to many wine enthusiasts. Geographically speaking, it is a unique area situated close to both Chablis and Champagne. Yet, it shares a common thread with these famous neighbors through its striking, dominant minerality, making it a hidden gem of a wine region. This wine is crafted by blending grapes harvested from several Kimmeridgian soil parcels within Épineuil. Reflecting the classic terroir of the region, the soils consist of marl and Kimmeridgian limestone. The vines are relatively young, with an average age of five years. Vinification and aging take place entirely in stainless steel tanks, with no oak contact. The 2022 vintage was undoubtedly an exceptional harvest. This is beautifully reflected in the wine's floral and tropical fruit aromas, alongside a fresh, vibrant palate that feels like biting into ripe, juicy fruit. Underneath, the signature minerality and subtle salinity of the region emerge, creating a remarkably balanced profile. Furthermore, characteristic of this vintage, the aromas and flavors are beautifully open and expressive from the moment the cork is pulled. As this producer is still very young, they have yet to create a major buzz. However, among all the wines I have tasted from the Chablis and Épineuil areas, none can rival this. It is a spectacular wine that gives every indication of a future star in the making.
